Pitcairn Islands

The Pitcairn Islands are the sole British Overseas Territory in the Pacific Ocean, comprising four volcanic islands of which only Pitcairn itself is inhabited by a community of a few dozen people, mostly descendants of HMS Bounty mutineers and Tahitians. As a UK territory, ultimate sovereignty and defense rest with Britain, while local administration is handled by an elected Mayor and Island Council under a UK-appointed Governor (typically the British High Commissioner to New Zealand). The territory's tiny and declining population, extreme remoteness, and dependence on New Zealand and the UK for logistics, services, and supply shipping are the defining structural realities rather than any regional rivalry.
