Kyrgyzstan hails first-ever UN Security Council seat
Kyrgyzstan was elected for the first time as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028, which President Sadyr Japarov called a historic achievement. The seat gives Bishkek a platform to raise Central Asian priorities such as water, climate and migration, while also drawing heightened scrutiny of its human rights record. Bishkek simultaneously hosted SCO interior ministers.
